Why we chose a fully asynchronous engineering culture.

Meetings are the mind-killer. If you ask any software engineer what destroys their productivity the most, the answer is rarely a complex bug or a server outage. It is the 10:30 AM alignment meeting right in the middle of their deepest state of flow.

When we founded TrigonAI, we looked at how traditional tech companies operated and realized they were optimizing for managerial comfort, not engineering output. We decided to build our company differently. We went fully asynchronous by default.

The True Cost of Context Switching

Engineering requires holding massive, complex mental models of systems in your head. Building that mental model takes time—often 30 to 45 minutes of unbroken focus.

When you interrupt a developer for a quick 15-minute "sync," you aren't just taking 15 minutes of their time. You are shattering that mental model. It will take them another 45 minutes just to get back to where they were. By eliminating synchronous meetings, we are protecting the most valuable asset our company has: deep, unbroken concentration.

Writing it Down Forces Clarity

In an asynchronous culture, if it isn't documented, it didn't happen.

Instead of jumping on a Zoom call to debate an architectural decision, our engineers write Request for Comments (RFCs) or technical briefs. This forces absolute clarity. When you have to write your argument down, you naturally spot the flaws in your own logic before anyone else does.

"Talking is cheap and fleeting. Writing is rigorous and permanent. Asynchronous communication forces you to be a better thinker."

Trusting the Workflow Engine

A fully async culture is only possible if everyone has access to a single source of truth. If people have to ask, "What is the status of this feature?", your system has failed.

This is exactly why we built TrigonAI. Our platform acts as the central nervous system for our entire company. Because our Git commits, Figma designs, and automated tests are all instantly synced to our workflow nodes, managers never have to ask for status updates. They just look at the board.

Synchronous as a Last Resort

Are we entirely opposed to talking in real time? No. We use synchronous communication (video calls) strictly for three things:

  1. 1-on-1 mentorship and career discussions.

  2. Complex incident resolution (when the servers are literally on fire).

  3. Social bonding.

Everything else—planning, status updates, code reviews, and feature discussions—happens asynchronously. The result? Our team is happier, less stressed, and ships code twice as fast as we did at our previous companies.
